Hurricane Dreamscape
In January 1990 (age 27 yrs) I was hitch-hiking down the M1 from West Yorkshire after a spell as 'Artist In Residence' at Bretton Hall College of Higher Education, where I had graduated 5 years beforehand. The college was sited next door to Woolley Edge service station on the M1,so as a student I developed the money-saving habit of hitch-hiking from Woolley Edge down to Brent Cross in London. This was then a normal way of getting around for students and, also, - disciples of Northern Soul who were short of a Bob or two. One did not need to plan ahead. You could alwys find a friendly face willing to give you a lift in your direction at the end of a Northern All-nighter. It wasn't considered risky how it is Today. On this occasion we were hit by a random force 20 Hurricane. I was dropped by a worried lorry driver on a Motorway slip-road, and beheld scenes like these of upturned lorries in a row by the wayside, as I gripped onto the roadside crash-barrier in fear of being blown away. This episode of not-normal-weather hauntedmy dreams and imagination for a while afterwards, resulting in this lithographic print. Hand-drawn, hand- printed offset plate litho. 50cm x 60cm. 1990.
